User Guide Series: Homer and Jean Blair Collection of United States Patent Models - Grain Drier

Grain Drier, U. S. Patent 4,777, September 26, 1846, Sebre Howard, Adrian, Michigan.

This is a device for drying grain, roasting coffee, etc. A furnace heats a cylindrical rotary chamber that passes the material to be dried into a ring shaped rotating chamber at the rear. The material is then brought to the front of the drier for collection.

This 23" x 5" x 7" model is made of sheet metal on a wood base. The main body has been painted to give the appearance of a tunnel-like chamber of miniature bricks. Although the paint is worn in some areas this model is in good condition for its age of over 150 years. Two Patent Office tags remain.

Although this is the oldest model in the collection, it is in perfect condition. The original Patent Office tag is included in the display.
