Magic Lantern, U. S. Patent 42,412, April 19,1864, George Sibbald, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The invention is a lantern with hinged wings and a lens tube that extends far enough into the interior of the lantern so that the inner lens is not directly exposed to light from internal lamps. It is interesting to note that the patent drawing shows a man wearing what may be a Civil War uniform. The 13" x 9" x 8" metal and glass model is in excellent condition with an original Patent Office tag. |
