MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE N.H. BAR ASSOCIATION SECTION ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW HELD 20 MARCH, 2002 WIGGIN & NOURIE, MANCHESTER, NH
Present: Phil Decker (chair), Peter J. Gardner (secretary, by phone), Tahira Jayasuriya (student liaison), Ashlyn Lembree, Peter Murphy, Nancy DeAngelis, Donna-Marie Cote,
    Douglas Verge.

Phil called the meeting to order at 6:05PM

    1. Peter moved to accept the minutes from the February meeting. Ashlyn seconded. The motion carried.

    2. Phil delivered the chairman's report. He briefly reviewed "lawyers on the move" news, upcoming events, PCT changes, and that Tahira will attend a Franklin Pierce Law Center PCT seminar and will report back to the section on any noteworthy matters.

    3. Phil announced that PTO Trademark Commissioner Anne H. Chasser will participate in a seminar at FPLC.

    4. Phil advised that he had been contacted by BNA in connection with BNA's offering of research materials to the section or to its members.

    5. Co-chair report: none.

    6. Secretary report: none.

    7. Student liaison report: Tahira raised the matter of a section periodical, which will be discussed below.

    8. Phil opened the periodicals initiative discussion. The idea is to develop an IP section periodical in some form that would be of interest to section members, N.H. IP practitioners, and perhaps a wider audience of IP practitioners beyond N.H. Tahira indicated her interest in researching and writing about "hot topics" in IP. Peter suggested that it might be most productive were the section to come together on a consensus of what the form and purpose of such a periodical should be, and that he and Tahira, and whoever else may wish, thereafter develop a proposed publication accordingly for presentation to the section. Questions to address would include: whether the publication should be printed or electronic; if electronic, on which website would the periodical appear; structure and length of articles; who would write articles; frequency of publication. Phil said he would ask former section chair Scott Asmus to research other similar periodicals. Bolstered by Nancy's expression that she loves to write, it was decided that Tahira and Peter would study the question and present their thoughts at the next section meeting.

    9. Phil invited a motion to establish a publications committee. Ashlyn so moved, seconded by Nancy, and the motion carried.

    10. Phil invited a motion to establish a "Top Ten N.H. patenting companies" list. Ashlyn so moved, Tahira seconded, and the motion carried.

    11. Phil advised that as an invited "web guru" guest speaker could not attend the meeting, discussion of a section website would be tabled until the next meeting.

    12. Phil raised the issue that the section had co-sponsored a CLE in the past. It was determined that no action on developing a CLE would be undertaken at this meeting.

    13. Phil decided, following discussion among those present, that the next section meeting would be held on Wednesday, May 1 at 5:30PM at Franklin Pierce Law Center. He advised that although the section generally meets on a bi-monthly basis, we will hold the May meeting on a shorter interval as this March meeting was effectively curtailed due to inclement weather (a snow storm).

    14. Phil invited a motion to adjourn. Nancy so moved, seconded by Ashlyn, and the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:55PM.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Peter J. Gardner, secretary
